Nuremberg

Siemens HQ and a Growing Desi Community. Nuremberg Gets a Show.

Nuremberg's Indian community revolves around two anchors: Siemens and the Friedrich Alexander University (FAU). Siemens has deep historical roots in the city and continues to employ Indian engineers across its energy, automation, and digitalization divisions. FAU's Erlangen campus, technically a separate city but functionally part of the same metro, adds a constant flow of Indian students in engineering and natural sciences. The Nuremberg Erlangen corridor is Franconia's tech belt.

Garam Masala Dating is the #1 live South Asian dating show and singles mixer from NYC. Real blind dates on stage, two hosts, a live audience, and a mixer. Nuremberg isn't Berlin or Munich in terms of desi population, but it has enough critical mass to fill a room, and that's all the show needs. Sometimes the mid-size cities produce the best shows because the audience is grateful and enthusiastic.

Franconian culture is distinct within Germany. It's not Bavarian (don't call a Franconians Bavarian, they'll correct you), and it has its own food, beer, and social traditions. For Indians navigating this specific corner of German culture, the quirks add up. The social circles are small. The Kneipe (pub) scene is local and insular. Meeting someone outside your professional or academic circle requires deliberate effort.

Nuremberg, Erlangen, and Furth form a tri-city area connected by the U-Bahn and S-Bahn, and the Indian community spans all three. A show in Nuremberg draws from this entire metropolitan region. The Altstadt provides a beautiful backdrop for a night out, and the city's Christmas market proves it knows how to create an event atmosphere.
